Cerzoo: an innovative agro-livestock farm, designing and testing new paths in sustainable farming, improving agroecology, applying regenerative cropping, animal welfare and sustainable practices in livestock production.

The Research center for livestock and environment is the research and extension farm of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore which was deeply renewed thanks to the Invernizzi Foundation funding to turn it into a model of agro-livestock farm able to run sustainable practices and assure animal welfare.

Cerzoo hosts a modern dairy farm, equipped with facilities designed to study applications aimed at improving production efficiency, animal welfare, and sustainability in the context of circularity. In the barn, every cow is fitted with sensors monitoring health, body weight, behavior, quantity, and product quality.

Facilities have been made with special attention to microclimatic control, taking advantage of natural ventilation and including an automatic air system in every season. Moreover, it is possible to set the photoperiod (light-dark cycle) according to specific research objectives. Cows are constantly monitored for feed intake. Also in the calf barn, there are automatic systems that allow the individual control of milk and feed intake.
